Values of being 'Undervalued'

I personally prefer to give myself an ‘undervalued’ reputation compared to my actual capability of facing challenges. There is no necessary need to boost up the value right away especially when you still have a few more miles to go to have a full access to your surroundings. Those surroundings that I mentioned here could be a competitive advantage of an expertise, network or support that you can leverage through.

It is mainly because as long as you keep staying on a great development/learning-curve (without any self-promotion), such obstacles created by yourself against the rewards (that should have given to you if your intention was lowering down the obstacles) finally cannot resist enough to maintain its status. It will reward you soon if you just do not mind to wait until the moment with a little more patience. There are several benefits of spending this extra efforts.

1. It seems you are making the job harder, but actually you are getting more opportunities to have more mistakes/experience or ‘cumulative data on your expertise storage’ than anybody else on the same line of the competition.

2. It also challenges you further with the imbalance between reputation and capability which makes you stay competitive with quite efficient know-how that you might have developed for yourself.

3. You can, in most cases, easily choose to untie the sandbags around your ankles anytime you want. If you have been working with more ‘attempted’ disadvantages, whenever you decided to unlock the retrained capability, you never run slower than the others who run on the competition without them.

This leverage may not be as helpful as you expected if you preferred radical effects on personal branding. However, my suggestion here is to train yourself harder by not giving you a fully satisfied status on purpose.

A new toy

When I get a totally brand new toy from somebody else as a gift, before I unbox it, touch it and play with it, I become a very careful child observing it as well as reading the instruction until I am pretty sure that I understand how to play.

However, that doesn’t mean that I am less interested in that toy than something else because I literally cannot stop looking at it until I finally get to play with my careful study for the gift. It is just because some of those toys sometimes make me so confused without the instruction attached to each of them. They are possibly made with very complex mechanisms or the top secrets of the toy makers. Most of the kids usually cannot easily guess how the toys work even while they are playing with them. As I finish my homework by reading the instruction, I would relatively get more sense of each toy that I have than the other kids, but I will still probably have several remaining questions.

You may or may not notice what I meant by all the “toy things” now confusing you enough, however, I was actually talking about the stock market and the economic recession over the last century as those are something that I cannot stop looking at according to my own description shown above. If you just got started studying of those subjects recently before making any significant risk-taking actions, you might feel you are studying of a field in science as the famous gurus of the semi-traditional topics are continuously improving their own opinions and hypotheses with fully scientific observations and measurements.

Please don’t be upset too early even when you cannot get the right answer which was supposed to be highly practical and applicable to most of those situations as you wished. Actually, what they are saying out there is, “the more the risk, the better the chance with a great reward for you.”

Media Consumption

From my experience, I realized that I needed a certain amount of input of information to generate the amount of output that I expected. For example, I am allowed to write this short paragraph in English only if I have learned enough grammar patterns floating within the conscious parts of my language brain.

So, there should be a brief brainstorming about this research of my media consumption to minimize the uncertainty that fluctuates between the each side of both extremes from my long-term expectation. Let me write down all possible criteria that I can think of so far.

Considerations needed for you to choose the right kind of media each time

1. Type - i.e. video, radio, text, discussion, or general conversation

2. Language - i.e. English, Korean, or non-language

3. Length - i.e. book, blog, news article, or a microblog post

4. Depth - i.e. knowledge, information, or data

5. Timeliness - i.e. for several years, a year, a month, a week, a day, or an hour

Any kind of comments are welcome to make a better start of my project.

The Frame of Scope

We wonder what the others think of each other and how they will look at you. I believe the instinct that we have is one of the biggest cornerstones which have been supporting societies of all different times and locations over the history.

Television shows may expose some sort of sex-appealing entertainment. Newspapers will let you know who has made the biggest money last night while you were sleeping with a dream of how to be those rich. How about following your most exciting sport team’s games even though you will never get a singular chance to play with them for your entire lifetime?

On the other side, I might want to distinguish myself from the others by wearing an extraordinarily designed and unique piece of attire, exploring further of my independent musical interest, or just trying to simply find out what my neighbors do not even think of.

I would love to conduct an examination about the mainstream values and the rest of the world. I will break the frame of scope which I am using in order to see it. To get rid of it, I first need to know what it looks like. If I feel that I am still not independent enough from the existing scope, I will put the broken pieces together and break them again.

Do you want to see what will happen? I will tell you what I see through my new eyes when I get the freedom of sight.

Time is Relative

The first time I felt this was probably not the best day of my life. I was doing good before this moment and it seemed to continue on, but the most successful moment suddenly disappeared and everything looked ambiguous.

I was looking for the reason why, and I found out the reason today, and it was of course inside of me as I expected. One minute that I consumed in the depression was different from that in the winning moments. The psychological gap came from the one who clocked the second.

With freewill, every second is totally involved in my territory. I can have whatever I want and am still allowed to spend enough time on competing with the guys who try to beat me down in the real life. The positive feedbacks encourage me to explore further to see the ceiling that I could touch among the sky.

If the choices are not mine, neither is the clock. I never get a free and relaxed minute even though I try to minimize unforgettable mistakes and foolish experiments on my own. In this case, I am eventually not going to the way I want.

It’s not what, but how. I get an equal chance to live my life just like the other people do. How I use the chance really matters. The real time creation has originated from these simple three words.

“Time is relative.”

I believe it’s sometimes pointless to compare between you and your neighbors with strengths that you don’t have.

Overlap-proof

The web synchronizes many things so far. However, we still have to type or upload our personal stuff over and over which are not totally brand new. We upload same pictures here and there. We type same status information here and there, and give up stay up-to-date and start repeating the task. I didn’t mean to criticize if it was worth that much of our time, but it wasn’t.

Overlapped parts in separated platforms cannot work together unless there’s the third platform which subscribes and collects the existing ones altogether. The problem is that the third one also wants to take as much attentions as possible from the sources it subscribes.

Another alternative mean is to post to such several platforms at once by using another kind of the third platforms. It, however, still does not resolve the problem of overlapping. It contributes to build up multiple, but same sources on each platform. It’s worse as long as each platform is exposed to the integrated web.

That’s why I’m thinking of overlap-proof. What do you think?

문득 인터넷과 SNS의 혁명이 어떤 의미일까 생각해봤다.

인터넷은 공유Copyleft와 비개방Copyright, 두 진영이 균형을 이루는 사이에 꾸준히 발전해왔다. 절대로 무균실이 될 수 없을 것 처럼 보이던 인터넷에 가장 페이스북Facebook과 같은 성공적인 형태의 주거지역이 건설되고, 이제 매일의 일상은 아주 사적인 부분까지도, 내가 허락한 한도 내에서, 나의 가장 친한 친구들에게만 공개된다.

과거에 우리의 팔과 다리의 길이가 점차 늘어나서 지구상 어느 위치든 하루 만에 다다를 수 있게 되었듯이, 우리의 신경회로 또한 하나의 오늘날 클라우드Cloud라고 불리우는 거대한 구심점에 연결되고 있다.

놀라운 기술의 발전이 경이롭지만, 우리의 또 하나의 모습을 잃게 되었다는 사실에 씁쓸함을 감출 수 없는 것이 사실이다. 우리는 지금 엄청난 변화를 경험하는 중이기 때문이다.

It’s like in the same manner of when we replaced coins for all street telephones with cell phones, sending immediate emails instead of mail deliveries, received internet-powered news over paper news published using old-fashioned cylinder pressing machines.

What do the revolution of Internet and SNS mean to us?

The Internet has been continuously improved while the share-copyleft and the exclusiveness-copyright struggled each other. Facebook has built a successful residential village within the Internet which was once considered as the opposite side of a cleanroom, and every participant’s daily life, even the most private part, is shared with their close friends authorized to access.

We have been able to approach anywhere of the world in a day as we made a better reach than ever before. Our neurological circuits are being connected to the giant cloud, the center of the system.

It’s pretty astonishing, yet a little bit sad for the lost past. It’s a work in progress.

I’ve seen some episodes of an American situation comedy series. I felt that I have forgotten how to be a human being for a while. I have only read books of business, successful organizations of it, IT services for a significant period of time. I hated watching such human fictional stories because I thought that has nothing to do with my thought flows. However, it had something and it could be the first reunion between the world and my humanity since after I had been isolated from it.

I’ve been looking for ways to look at this world more precisely which means in an objective point of view. I remember that one said 90% of my own world consists of my subjective interpretation and reactions to it besides the rest 10% of things actually happened to me. It’s clear that this world is mostly up to myself just like the 90% and 10% could come from the author’s point of view. How could he/she measure?

I was told that everybody was eligible to ride public transportation for free today due to the extreme weather condition. It is a kind of social cushion that protects its people for unexpected contingency. And my thought flow went into free rides a person tries an opportunistic attempt on efforts of the others. The benefit at the end is shared with all the others in the group even though you did the hard work by yourself. Is that going to be your loss? Would you say you were so dedicated to a public benefit? Will you claim? Are you going to try not to contribute any to the change which will result in benefits? What if you don’t get any benefit because nobody tried to step forward to take any risk? Will the risk of your contribution be larger than your potential stake of benefit shared with all the other members of the group?

I am talking about Facebook. It keeps people spending hours on their website. The longer users stay, the higher probability they click on the customized advertisement. Generally speaking, it’s helpful for those services to gather a number of users in terms of profitability. The number directly and indirectly means the possible outcome which can cover the initial investment of capital. That is why they try to expand without any advertisement at first as ‘the Social Network’ told us. The business models are now turning into social commerce services which are location-based. People become friends with who they know. People buy which their friends buy. People go where their friends have tried and recommended. That cannot be conducted even through one of the most innovative algorithms of Google. It’s something in the next generation.
